چکیده
Abstract This study evaluates the potentials of liquefaction caused by 2017 moment magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Pohang City, South Korea. We obtain shear wave velocity profiles measured suspension PS logging tests at five sites near epicenter. also perform downhole three sites. Among sites, surface manifestations (i.e., sand boils) were observed and not other two The maximum accelerations on ground are estimated using Next Generation Attenuation relationships for Western United State motion prediction equations. from slightly different, resulting varying cyclic resistance ratios, factors safety against liquefaction, potential indices. Nevertheless, we found that both test approaches can be used to evaluate potentials. indices liquefied approximately 1.5–13.9, whereas those non-liquefied 0–0.3.

Evaluation and Prediction of Shear Wave Velocities
Shear wave velocities from full waveform acoustic logs were determined at DSDP Site 613 using the spectral ratio inversion method. Discrete shear wave velocities for a 350 meter interval at 0.5-2 meter depth increments were calculated. Shear wave velocities were not evaluated for the upper 130m of the log because of data recording problems. The sediments of Site 613 represent a progression from...
متن کاملEvaluating the Liquefaction Potential of Soil in the South and Southeast of Tehran based on the Shear Wave Velocity through Empirical Relationships
The liquefaction resistance of soil can be evaluated using laboratory tests such as cyclic simple shear, cyclic triaxial, cyclic torsional shear as well as field methods like Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Cone Penetration Test (CPT) and Shear Wave Velocity (Vs). In this regard, this study attempts to compare the results of the SPT based on the simplified procedure proposed by Seed and Idriss...
متن کاملsoil liquefaction assessment of earthquake using the shear wave velocity (a case study in ardabil city)
1. introduction as the pressure of porous water increases in sand soils and saturated loose layers during an earthquake, the soil tendency to reduce its own volume leads to a decrease in the soil’s multifaceted tension. this way, the shear strength of the soil strongly decreases and comes close to zero. this phenomenon is called liquefaction. soil liquefaction is the cause of much destruction o...

متن کاملDetermination of Shear Wave Velocities in "slow" Formations
Direct determination of formation shear wave travel time is impossible in "slow" formations where the shear wave velocity is lower than the borehole fluid (mud) velocity. However, the Stoneley waves in these formations are very sensitive to changes in formation shear wave properties and can be used to indirectly determine the formation shear velocity, In addition, the P wave packet is highly de...
